John B. Serson - Vice President Technology

John Serson, our close friend and valued colleague, passed away unexpectedly in late April, 2019. At the time of his passing, John served our Company as Vice President of Technology, playing a leading role in driving the strategy and development of the Chall Architecture.

John held a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois, and he had over 40 years of experience in software and combined software/hardware based projects.

Prior to joining APA, Mr. Serson held Principal Software Engineering positions at Lockheed Martin, Loral, Ford Aerospace, and Philco-Ford. Over his distinguished career, he developed operating system interfaces, assemblers and software tools for a variety of application-specific and general-purpose computer systems. For several years, John managed the Image Processing Laboratory and acted as Principal Engineer and technical contributor for the Ford All-Weather Vehicle programs. He also developed telemetry, tracking and targeting software and three-dimensional, real-time graphics display software for defense applications. Representative defense programs that John contributed to include imaging software for the F/A-18 aircraft and the AIM-9R Sidewinder missile. During his long career, John spent time on assignment at the Western Missile Test Range, Vandenburg Air Force Base; at the Army Ballistic Missile Defense Advanced Technology Center; at the White Sands Missile Range; and at the China Lake Naval Weapons Center.

After retiring from Lockheed Martin, John operated an independent consulting business providing software services to industrial and private clients, with a special emphasis on developing software for embedded systems and networked systems that control devices both locally and over the internet. John operated this business while serving as the Company’s Vice President of Technology.

John gave generously of his time and talents to The Childrens Bureau of Orange County, California, by developing specialized software to support that organization’s annual events.

We celebrate John Serson’s engineering expertise and his professional accomplishments, but we shall most remember John as a devoted and helpful friend who always was quick to assist in any way he could. He will be sorely missed.
